insurgent groups

Fighting the government

Insurgent groups are organized forces that rebel against established authority, typically a government.

The term usually describes armed movements using guerrilla tactics rather than conventional warfare: Insurgent groups controlled much of the countryside.

Unlike terrorists, insurgents generally seek territorial control or political power rather than purely symbolic violence, though the labels often blur depending on who's speaking.
