inside joke
Only we understand
An inside joke is a joke understood only by a particular group, requiring shared knowledge or experience that outsiders lack.
The humor depends on context—a reference, memory, or running gag meaningful to those "inside" but baffling to everyone else: You had to be there.
Inside jokes reinforce group bonds while excluding others.
