information blackout
Enforced media silence
An information blackout is a period when news or communication is deliberately suppressed or unavailable.
Governments may impose blackouts during military operations or civil unrest; organizations use them to control narratives around sensitive events.
The term also applies to self-imposed restrictions: The jury was kept under an information blackout during deliberations.
