id's
Freud's base drives
Id's is the plural of id, the Freudian term for the primitive, instinctual part of the psyche that seeks immediate gratification.
The apostrophe appears because the word is so short that "ids" looks odd: The therapist spoke of patients' id's clashing with their superegos.
Some writers prefer "ids" without the apostrophe.
