hypochondrium
Beneath the ribs
The hypochondrium is either of two regions of the upper abdomen, just below the ribs on each side.
In anatomy, the right hypochondrium contains the liver; the left contains the spleen.
The term shares a root with hypochondria—ancient medicine located melancholy in organs beneath the ribs.
