hunting and pecking
Slow keyboard method
Hunting and pecking is a method of typing where you search for each key individually and press it with one or two fingers, rather than touch-typing with all fingers on the home row.
The term captures the visual darting and jabbing motion: He was still hunting and pecking after twenty years at a desk job.
By extension, any slow, unsystematic searching process.
