household labor
Unpaid home work
Household labor is the unpaid work required to maintain a home and care for its occupants—cooking, cleaning, laundry, childcare, grocery shopping, and similar tasks.
The term often appears in discussions of gender equity, since household labor has traditionally fallen disproportionately on women: Studies show wives still perform more household labor than husbands, even when both work full-time.
