home free

Past all obstacles

Home free means safely past all obstacles or certain of success.

The phrase comes from children's games where reaching home base meant you couldn't be tagged out.

Now it applies to any situation where the hard part is over: Once we get past the interview, we're home free.

The surgery went well—she's home free now.
