historic structures

Preserved architectural heritage

Historic structures are buildings, bridges, monuments, or other constructed works significant for their age, architecture, or association with past events.

The term appears most often in preservation contexts: The commission reviews changes to historic structures in the downtown district.

A structure need not be ancient to qualify—many countries protect buildings from the twentieth century or later.
