historic railways
Preserved steam routes
Historic railways are preserved or restored rail lines operated primarily for heritage, tourism, or educational purposes rather than regular transportation.
These railways typically feature vintage locomotives and rolling stock, often steam-powered, running on scenic or historically significant routes: We took the kids on the historic railway through the mountain pass.
Many are maintained by enthusiast volunteers.
Also called heritage railways, especially in British usage.
