Before the hooray
Hip hip is the call-and-response cheer opener, followed by "hooray" or "hurrah." The leader shouts Hip hip! and the crowd responds Hooray! —typically repeated three times.
It's used to celebrate someone at birthdays, toasts, or public honors: Let's give him three cheers—hip hip hooray!
