higher courts
Superior judicial bodies
Higher courts are courts with authority to review decisions made by lower courts.
In most legal systems, cases can be appealed from trial courts to appellate courts, and sometimes to a supreme or highest court.
The case was remanded by the higher court for a new trial.
The term is relative—a state appeals court is higher than a trial court but lower than the state supreme court.
