high capacity magazine

A high capacity magazine is a detachable ammunition container for a firearm that holds more rounds than standard—typically defined as exceeding 10 to 15 rounds, though the threshold varies by jurisdiction.

The term appears frequently in gun control debates: Several states have banned high capacity magazines.

Gun rights advocates often reject the term as politicized, preferring "standard capacity magazine" for factory-original sizes.
