helicopter gunships
Military attack choppers
Helicopter gunships are military helicopters equipped with heavy weaponry—machine guns, rockets, missiles, or cannons—designed for attacking ground targets and providing close air support.
Unlike transport helicopters, gunships are built primarily for combat: Apache gunships strafed the convoy.
The term emerged during the Vietnam War, when armed helicopters became central to military operations.
