heads of household
Primary domestic authorities
Heads of household is the plural of head of household—the person primarily responsible for a home and its dependents.
The term appears most often in tax and census contexts, where it designates someone who maintains a household for qualifying dependents: Three of the five heads of household in our building are single mothers.
The phrase can also describe anyone running a home, regardless of official status.
