head-up displays
Projected cockpit data
Head-up displays project information onto a transparent surface in a user's line of sight, eliminating the need to look away from what they're viewing.
Originally developed for fighter pilots to see flight data while watching the sky, they now appear in cars, showing speed and navigation on the windshield: The head-up display showed I was doing seventy.
Often abbreviated HUD.
