hand-spinning
Fiber-twisting by fingers
Hand-spinning is the craft of twisting fibers into yarn or thread using manual tools rather than industrial machinery.
The spinner draws out fibers—wool, cotton, flax, or silk—and twists them together using a spindle or spinning wheel operated by hand.
The practice predates mechanized textile production by thousands of years and continues as a fiber arts hobby: She took up hand-spinning to make yarn from her own sheep's fleece.
