hamburger menus
Three horizontal bars
A hamburger menu is the three horizontal lines (☰) that indicate a hidden navigation menu in websites and apps, named for its resemblance to a stylized hamburger.
Tapping or clicking reveals the full menu.
The icon became standard as mobile interfaces needed to conserve screen space: I couldn't find settings until I checked the hamburger menu.
