half days
Partial work periods
Half days are work or school days shortened to roughly half the normal hours, typically ending at midday.
Schools often schedule half days before holidays or for teacher conferences: The kids have a half day on Wednesday.
In workplaces, half days may be taken as partial leave: I'm taking a half day to go to the dentist.
