hairpin bends
Sharp road curves
Hairpin bends are extremely sharp U-shaped turns in a road, typically found on mountain routes where the terrain requires the road to double back on itself.
The term comes from the resemblance to a hairpin's curved shape.
The alpine pass featured seventeen hairpin bends.
