grizzling

Low persistent complaining

Grizzling is quiet, persistent complaining or whimpering, especially by children.

A grizzling child isn't throwing a tantrum but making low, fretful sounds of discontent: The baby's been grizzling all afternoon.

The term is more common in British English.

Grizzling can also describe hair turning gray, from a different sense of grizzle meaning to become gray.
