greengage

Sweet French plum

A greengage is a variety of plum with sweet, greenish-yellow flesh.

Greengages are prized for eating fresh and for making preserves, though they're less common in American markets than purple plums.

The name comes from Sir William Gage, who introduced the fruit to England in the 18th century.
