green cloth
Pool table cover
Green cloth is fabric dyed green, but the term specifically evokes the baize covering of billiard tables, card tables, and gambling surfaces.
The balls rolled across the green cloth.
By extension, green cloth suggests gambling or gaming environments.
In British historical usage, the Board of Green Cloth was a royal household department that managed domestic affairs.
