googols

Ten-to-the-hundredth powers

Googols is the plural of googol, the number 1 followed by 100 zeros—written as 10^100.

The term was coined by a mathematician's nine-year-old nephew and represents a quantity larger than the estimated number of atoms in the observable universe.

It exists mainly to illustrate unimaginably large numbers rather than for practical calculation: The possibilities aren't infinite, but there might as well be googols of them.
