goal areas
Restricted penalty boxes
Goal areas are the smaller rectangular zones directly in front of each goal in soccer, marked by lines extending six yards from the goalposts.
Goal kicks must be taken from within this box, and the goalkeeper has certain protections here.
The term sometimes appears in other sports with similar marked zones near scoring areas.
