go to the wall
Fight until finished
To go to the wall is to fail completely, especially in business—to be ruined or forced into bankruptcy: Several small shops went to the wall when the supermarket opened.
The phrase can also mean to make an extreme sacrifice or effort for something: She'd go to the wall for her kids.
Both senses suggest being pushed to the limit.
