ghost call

Phone rings, silence

A ghost call is a phone call where no one is on the other end—the recipient answers to silence or dead air.

Ghost calls typically result from autodialers, technical glitches, or spoofed numbers rather than actual callers.

The term also applies to phantom rings where someone thinks they heard their phone but it never actually rang.
