geta

Elevated wooden sandal

Geta are traditional Japanese wooden sandals, elevated on two vertical slats that keep the foot above the ground.

The raised platform protected feet from mud, rain, and snow.

The distinctive clacking sound of geta on pavement is associated with traditional Japanese dress, particularly when worn with kimono or yukata: She walked to the festival in geta and a summer yukata.
