get with the program
Start paying attention
Get with the program is an imperative urging someone to pay attention, adapt to current expectations, or start behaving appropriately.
It implies the person being addressed is out of step with what everyone else already understands or accepts.
The phrase carries mild exasperation: We've explained the new policy three times—get with the program.
It can also be self-directed when someone recognizes they need to catch up or focus.
