genuflexion
Bending one knee
Genuflexion is the act of bending one knee to the ground, typically as a gesture of reverence or worship.
The practice is common in Catholic churches, where worshippers genuflect before the altar or when entering a pew.
By extension, genuflexion can mean any exaggerated show of deference or submission: His constant genuflexion before management disgusted his coworkers.
Also spelled genuflection.
