general overview
Big picture view
A general overview is a broad summary that covers the main points without going into detail.
The phrase is slightly redundant—overviews are general by nature—but the combination emphasizes breadth over depth: The report provides a general overview of climate policy.
Often used to set expectations that specifics will follow or be found elsewhere.
