general convention
Widely accepted custom
General Convention is the governing body of the Episcopal Church in the United States, meeting every three years to set church policy, approve liturgical changes, and elect leadership.
Composed of two houses—the House of Bishops and the House of Deputies—it functions somewhat like a legislature for the denomination.
The General Convention voted to revise the Book of Common Prayer.
In lowercase, a general convention is simply a large formal assembly of members from an organization or profession.
