gazumped
Sale stolen away
Gazumped describes being outbid on a property after your offer was already accepted—the seller backs out to take a higher offer from someone else.
Primarily British: We were about to exchange contracts when we got gazumped.
The practice is legal in England and Wales, where sales aren't binding until contracts are exchanged.
To gazump is to do this to a buyer.
