gate check
Planeside luggage surrender
Gate check refers to checking luggage or other items at the boarding gate rather than at the main check-in counter.
Airlines gate check strollers, car seats, and carry-ons that won't fit in overhead bins: They had to gate check my bag because the flight was full.
Gate-checked items are typically returned at the jet bridge upon arrival.
