fusion music
Cross-genre musical synthesis
Fusion music blends elements from different musical genres or traditions into a hybrid style.
The term most often refers to jazz fusion, which emerged in the late 1960s by combining jazz improvisation with rock rhythms and electric instruments: Miles Davis pioneered fusion with Bitches Brew.
But fusion applies broadly to any cross-genre combination: Afro-Cuban fusion, Celtic fusion, fusion of classical and electronic music.
