trad jazz
Old-school New Orleans
Trad jazz is traditional jazz—the New Orleans style from the early twentieth century, characterized by collective improvisation, a front line of trumpet, clarinet, and trombone, and a rhythm section of piano, banjo, bass, and drums.
The term emerged in the 1940s and 50s to distinguish this older style from bebop and other modern developments: a trad jazz revival band, trad jazz clubs in London.
