fossil fuel ban
Coal-oil phase-out
A fossil fuel ban is a policy prohibiting or phasing out the extraction, sale, or use of coal, oil, or natural gas.
Such bans vary in scope—some target new drilling or mining, others restrict sales of gasoline-powered vehicles by a certain date: California's fossil fuel ban on new gas cars takes effect in 2035.
The term appears frequently in climate policy debates.
