Football pitches are playing fields for football (soccer in American English)—rectangular grass or artificial turf surfaces marked with boundary lines, a center circle, penalty areas, and goals at each end.
In British usage, the term extends as an informal unit of measurement for large areas: The estate covers an area roughly equivalent to six football pitches.
