Fogbows are pale, ghostly arcs that form in fog the same way rainbows form in rain—through the refraction of sunlight through water droplets.
Because fog droplets are much smaller than raindrops, fogbows appear white or faintly colored rather than displaying the vivid spectrum of a rainbow: We spotted a fogbow off the ship's bow at dawn.
