flexible flyer
Classic wooden sled
A flexible flyer is a steerable wooden sled with metal runners, designed for riding downhill on snow.
The front crossbar pivots, allowing the rider to steer by shifting weight or pulling on the side rails: We spent all afternoon on the hill with our flexible flyers.
Originally a trademark, the term now applies generically to sleds of this design.
