fleapits

Rundown movie theaters

Fleapits is the plural of fleapit, a British informal term for a rundown or shabby movie theater or other venue.

The name suggests a place so dingy it might be infested with fleas: We used to watch old horror films at the fleapit on Saturday afternoons.

The term carries nostalgic affection as often as genuine criticism.
