fixed rope
Secured climbing cord
Fixed rope is a climbing rope anchored permanently along a route, allowing climbers to ascend and descend repeatedly without removing it.
On major expeditions, teams fix ropes on difficult or dangerous sections so that climbers and supplies can move safely between camps: We clipped into the fixed rope and started up the icefall.
The technique is standard on high-altitude peaks like Everest.
