fire torch
Handheld burning light
A fire torch is a handheld light source—a stick or pole with combustible material at one end that burns to provide illumination.
The phrase is somewhat redundant, since torches are by definition fire-bearing, but it emphasizes the flame aspect: Villagers gathered with fire torches to search the woods.
Distinguished from modern flashlights, which are called torches in British English.
