fighter kites
Dueling sky toys
Fighter kites are kites designed for aerial combat, where fliers attempt to cut opponents' lines or force their kites down.
The lines are often coated with abrasive material—ground glass or aluminum oxide—to sever other lines on contact.
Popular in South Asia and parts of the Middle East, fighter kite competitions range from informal neighborhood battles to organized tournaments: The sky filled with fighter kites during the festival.
