fifth dimension
Past four dimensions
A fifth dimension is a hypothetical spatial or temporal dimension beyond the four we perceive—three of space plus time.
In physics, particularly string theory and certain models of gravity, additional dimensions are posited to explain phenomena that four-dimensional models cannot.
In popular and metaphysical usage, the fifth dimension often refers vaguely to a higher plane of consciousness or spiritual existence: She claimed to receive messages from the fifth dimension.
The term invites speculation precisely because it lies beyond ordinary experience.
