fetoscopes
Womb sound devices
Fetoscopes are instruments for monitoring a fetus during pregnancy.
The simplest type is a specialized stethoscope placed against the pregnant abdomen to hear the fetal heartbeat.
More advanced fetoscopes are thin fiber-optic devices inserted through the uterine wall, allowing direct visualization of the fetus for diagnosis or surgery: The surgeon used a fetoscope to correct the spinal defect before birth.
