female writer
Woman who authors works
A female writer is simply a writer who is a woman.
The phrase exists because "writer" was long assumed male by default, making female a necessary modifier for visibility.
The construction is increasingly seen as redundant or limiting—writers are writers regardless of gender—though it persists in discussions of representation: The anthology features female writers from twelve countries.
