family hierarchy
Household power structure
Family hierarchy is the ranking of authority and status among family members.
Traditional hierarchies place parents above children, elders above younger generations, and in many cultures, men above women.
The term often appears in discussions of power dynamics: The family hierarchy meant grandmother's word was final.
In blended or extended families, hierarchies can be contested or unclear.
