false alibi
Lying about location
A false alibi is a fabricated account of one's whereabouts, typically offered to avoid suspicion of wrongdoing.
Someone provides a false alibi by claiming to have been somewhere they weren't during a crime or incident: His girlfriend gave him a false alibi, saying he was with her all night.
The term appears frequently in crime reporting and legal contexts.
Providing a false alibi can itself be a crime—obstruction of justice or perjury if given under oath.
