error rates
How often wrong
Error rates measure how often mistakes occur in a process, system, or measurement.
In statistics and machine learning, the error rate is the proportion of incorrect predictions or classifications.
In data transmission, it tracks corrupted bits.
In manufacturing, it counts defective units.
Lower error rates generally indicate better performance: The new algorithm reduced error rates by half.
The acceptable threshold depends entirely on context—a 1% error rate might be excellent for speech recognition but catastrophic for nuclear safety systems.
